I’m “That Mom” Who Wanted to Be a Fashion Designer… So I Made a Dress Out of 2-Ply Toilet Paper
Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? Me: a fashion designer. Sketches and sketches and sketches…
But then I fell in love with writing. I wanted to be a copywriter in New York City. Ended up a graphic designer in Lexington, Kentucky. Somewhere along the way, I forgot that part of me.
Then came a divorce, and I was a single mother of two. I moved back to my home state of Ohio. Then the pandemic hit, and it forced me to focus on entrepreneurship.
It also forced me to bring all my loves together when I started celebrating random holidays every single day on social media: writing, designing… and yes, fashion.
Then one day, it was National Toilet Paper Day. And I had a roll of 2-ply.
I wrapped it around myself and suddenly—hello, runway! I was a fashion designer again, if only for five glorious minutes. My creativity was alive and unapologetic. No pattern, no rules, just play.
Playing with your inner child isn’t just fun. It’s a reminder: you’re enough. You belong. You matter. You’re allowed to show up exactly as you are.
That magical meet cute moment you’ve been waiting for? Plot twist: it’s with you. Right here, right now. Reclaim your creativity, your dreams, your enoughness. It’s yours.
Try it yourself: make a TP dress, doodle your dream outfit, or just play. Hug that part of yourself first. I promise your inner child will thank you. Pinky swear.
