For the Working Mom When She Looks in the Mirror
Working Parents Day, Inspired by Baby Boom starring Diane Keaton
Some days, the mirror doesn’t show the work. It doesn’t show the hours you’ve spent juggling clients, kids, classes, and deadlines. It doesn’t show the late nights, the tiny victories, the tears you swallowed because someone needed you more. It just shows you.
And if you’re me? Some days it whispers, What are you even doing? Who are you fooling?
Here’s the truth: I’d never say that to a friend. If a friend looked tired, pulled in a million directions, wondering if she was enough—I’d tell her: You’re doing enough. You’re enough. And you’re kind of killing it.
So why can’t I tell myself the same thing?
Perimenopause, work, life, the spinning carousel of it all—sometimes it’s a lot. And yes, your hair might be doing things you don’t recognize, your patience might be thinner than you like, but that doesn’t make you less. It just makes you human.
Today, I looked in the mirror and remembered: I could try being a better friend to myself too. I could speak to myself with the same care I give my kids, my clients, my friends. And guess what? This version? It’s enough.
